Function:
The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe operation of College-owned buses in the transportation of athletic teams, clubs, organizations or other College affiliated groups being transported to College related functions and for routine care of the buses such as setting up oil changes and tire rotations/replacements.
Organizational Relationship:
The Bus Driver will report to the Athletic Director for Athletic events, who reports to the VP of Student Services, who reports to the President of the College.
Required Qualifications:
- Individual will be subject to random drug testing
- Individual must hold, or be able to secure, a valid CDL license with Passenger Endorsement
- Individual must be able to pass a health physical, to include a vision test as mandated by State and Federal laws
- Individual must be currently CPR certified or capable of receiving certification
- Individual must be attentive to surrounding environments to include traffic, road conditions, and weather conditions
- Individual must have excellent driving skills and a good driving record
- Individual must be safety conscious
- Willingness to complete all training required by the College; including Safe Colleges Training.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating a bus
- Previous experience operating a motor vehicle requiring a CDL license with Passenger Endorsement
- Familiar with general first aid procedures
- Air Brake Certification
Essential Functions:
- Completion of a pre-trip inspection checklist of the bus to be driven
- Driving of the bus to and from various College sponsored functions, including overnight stays, where required
- Completion of a post-trip inspection checklist
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of bus interior
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of bus exterior
- Report mechanical problems to appropriate personnel
- Assist with loading and unloading of buses
- Work with Athletic Director and other staff on scheduling of trips
Other Functions:
- Assist Coaching staff as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Supervisory Controls:
This position will work closely with the Athletic Director in the scheduling of trips, to include time of departure, trip duration, down-time, and estimated time of return. Coach or other College staff will normally be present on all trips for guidance.
Guidelines:
Position is expected to follow all Kaskaskia College policies and procedures, along with all local, state and federal laws and regulations. Position is also expected to adhere to and promote College core values of learning, respect, excellence, access, diversity, integrity, and community.
Personal Relationships:
This position will require frequent contact with students, staff, and outside agencies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position requires evening and weekend travel as well as some overnight travel. Additionally, the athletic programs make occasional out-of-state trips per year for periods up to 8 days in length.
